Our Story – From Fancy Dress to Fortune Cats

 

Wowclothes UK was born in early 2007—thanks to a tax rebate and a couple of glasses of red wine. Instead of spending it all on more wine, we took a leap of faith and launched an e-commerce store.

 

A Norwich-based web design company got the call, a deposit was paid… and then reality hit—we actually had to run a business!

 

Without a detailed plan (but with plenty of enthusiasm), we settled on the name Wowclothes.co.uk and jumped into the world of fancy dress clothing.

 

Things were going well… until our founder took a trip to Southeast Asia.

 

That journey led to two unexpected discoveries: Warcraft and Lucky Cats.

 

The first led to a groundbreaking moment—Wowclothes became the first company in Europe to import officially licensed World of Warcraft T-shirts from California. It was a huge success… until the game’s owner pulled the plug, launching their own European shop and cutting off our supply.

 

So, we pivoted back to fancy dress, selling across the UK and even shipping as far as Paris, France.

 

But through it all, one thing stuck with us—the Lucky Cats.

 

Fast forward to today, and we’ve embraced our true calling: sharing the magic of Maneki-Neko with the world.
